Mr
Anuj Bhagwati, Managing Director, A.T.E. Enterprises Private Limited,
made a presentation on 'Thoughts on the Textile Machinery Technology
Scene in India' at the seminar on 'The Textile Machinery : The Road
Ahead' on 23 February 2007 at Hotel Intercontinental, New Delhi,
organized by CII. Following is the synopsis of the presentation.
 |
"There
has been a tremendous spurt of about 60% in the demand
for textile machinery by the Indian textile industry
between 2004-05 and 2005-06, the figures for which are
available. The tempo seems to be continuing for the
current year too. The growth in imports of textile machinery
far outpaces the domestic production, widening the gap
between imports and domestic production significantly.
From my personal experience in the field of over a decade,
this widening gap between imports and domestic production
is a significant pointer to the level of technology,
range and delivery times of the textile machinery manufactured
in India vis-à-vis the supplies from foreign
manufacturers. |
| Mr
Anuj Bhagwati making a presentation at the seminar organized
by CII. |
The widening gap is due to many reasons: the long time needed
by the machinery manufacturers to ramp up operations to cope
with the increased demand is certainly one. But there are
also a host of other restrictions that stymie the advancement
of technology in textile machinery, such as policy constraints,
small scale operations due to historically low demands, limited
R&D budgets, attitude of user industry, etc.
A strong Indian textile machinery industry would serve as
a catalyst in the growth and success of the Indian textile
industry as it can greatly enhance the competitiveness of
this industry by economically providing superior products
and services. This will help the Indian textile industry to
fend off the competition from other countries more effectively
and strengthen its position in the world textile space.”
The technological advancement of textile engineering industry
is also linked to overall culture and approach of the country
to research and development. In India the overall investment
in R & D is one of the lowest in the world. Further, the
lack of world-class institutes spearheading development efforts
in general and also in textile engineering hampers technological
development.
The change of mindset – of the machinery industry, the
user industry, government and research institutes –
is the most important aspect in making the Indian textile
engineering industry truly vibrant and world class.”

Trumac Engg to
expand machinery range
BUOYED by surge in demand for textile machinery, the Ahmedabad
- based Tru-mac Engineering Company Pvt Ltd, engaged in manufacturing
and marketing of spinning preparatory machinery, is expected
to post a turnover of Rs 200 crore for the fiscal 2005-06,
clocking an 18% growth over its previous year's Rs 170 crore.
Trumac is also set to widen its product rang by taking advantage
of the bullish market for domestic Textile industry which
is sharpening investment in plant and machinary.
"We'll be expanding the range of our products as well as our
volume as the market is more pointed towards increased competition,"
said Mr. Atul K. Bhagwati , Chairman and Managing Director
of Trumac Engineering which is the joint venture of the Mumbai-based
ATE group and the German textile machinary major Trutzschler
Gmbh and Co.
Trutzschler is in fact the major stakeholder in Trumac and
provides the knowhow for the company. Trumac Has its own production
unit in Ahmedabad and it also helps out in direct marketing
of Trutzschler's textile Machinary shipped from its German
plant. This way, Trutzschler's machinary sale this year in
India done through Truman is estimated to be at Rs. 100 crore.
"We are the leading manufactures in the blow-room/carding/draw
eqipment and we want to retain that position in the days to
come," said Mr. Heinrich Trutzschler, Managing Partner of
Trutzschler Gmbh. Both Mr. Bhagwati and Mr. Trutzschler were
in the city recently to celebrae the silver jubilee year of
Trumac Engineering. Mr. Heinrich told Business Line that Trumac
is expeceted to double its earnings from the current Rs 200
crore Within the next three years. As part of widening its
machinary offering to the Indian market, Trumac is planning
to introduce new draw-frame model (No. TD-03) soon and according
to Mr. Bhagwati, the joint venture company is also planning
to come out with one or two new blow-room equipment models.
Only recently the company had started producing for the first
time card clothing (TCC) products. "Every year, we bring in
additional investment of some of RS 8 crore to Trumac to facilitate
continuous modernisation and last year it had been raised
to Rs 10 crore with the launch of card clothing equipment
production," said Mr. Bhagwati.
A strong player in blowroom and carding machinary, Trumac's
market share in these segments in India is said to be substantial.
The company has sold cumulatively blowroom machinary worth
Rs 575 crore and delivered 3,800 carding machines worth Rs
700 crore. It is likely to cross the 4,000 mark in carding
machinary sale by this March.
Mr. Trutzschler, who refused to divuleg the details on the
shareholding between Trutzschler and ATE in the Indian venture,
however maintained that "Trutzschler is happy with its Indian
partner who has helped the former increase its stake in Trumac."

Anuj Bhagwati's presentation
at CII -Comptex 2005
| |
|
| ‘Indian
Textile Industry’ is growing at a rapid pace thanks to
the various governmental measures like Technology Upgradation
Fund (TUF) to modernise the industry and make it globally cometitive.
Confederation of Indian Industry and SIMA organized a two-day
conference to highlight the best of global technologies available
and investments required to sustain competitiveness in the global
market. Comptex 2005 was held in Coimbatore on 8-9 April and
the theme was 'Sustainable Global Competitiveness of Textile
Industry'. ATEEPL was an associate sponsor of this event.
Several experts from India and abroad were invited to speak
on various topics. Our MD, Mr Anuj Bhagwati was invited to speak
on ‘Processing Technology-Wovens. The focus of Mr Anuj
Bhagwati's presentation was on using modern technology in wet
processing of woven fabrics to save water, energy and chemicals
used in the process.
Mr Anuj Bhagwati explained the sequence of process to be followed
in wet processing and explained in detail about the continuous
finishing machines, its efficiency in saving water and the various
features of continuous bleaching, mercerizing, dyeing and washing
ranges. Interesting facts and figures were highlighted by Anuj
Bhagwati while comparing continuous and semi-continuous machines
relating to their water, steam and fuel (oil) consumption. Anuj
Bhagwati summarized the presentation with the message that ‘Utility
consumption- an often neglected factor’, is very decisive
in today’s competitive working environment. The processing
units must look for appropriate technology at each stage of
processing such as water extraction, drying, squeezing and developing.
This presentation served to give an impetus to the audience
particularly the processing units to switch to modern technology
machines. Extract of his presentation is put up on our intranet
under
Mr. J.Stillger from A Monforts Textilmaschinen GmBH & Co.
KG Germany and Mr. Ulrich Von Christen from Erbatech GmbH, Germany
also spoke during the session. Mr Stillger made a presentation
on textile finishing machinery and mainly focused on Monfort’s
recent development of continuous dyeing range.
It was very interesting to note that a ‘revolutionary
technology’ known as the ‘THE- E- CONTROL
SYSTEM’ introduced by Monforts in recent years
is setting trends in technological development of continuous
dyeing range. This technology requires only 2-3 minutes for
dyeing at certain recommended temperature in the chambers and
only color, mild alkali and wetting agent for dyeing, which
means avoiding consumption of huge volume of common salt, sodium
silicate and urea. This will mean a huge saving for the customer
compared to pad batch and jigger techniques. One can dye even
dark shades like jet black, navy with good fastness. Also, the
water required to wash the dyed fabric is lesser than the conventional
process
Customers like Ramkumar Mills, Bangalore, Premier Mills, Hosur
and Loyal Fabrics, Cuddalore have already benefited immensely
by this technology.
Mr.Ulrich Von Christen of Erbatech GmbH, Germany explained about
the wet finishing ranges like continuous bleaching range, washing
range for open width knitted goods and cold pad batch for bleaching.
The main feature of the ranges is to take care of tension in
the knitted fabrics and lower water consumption.
ATEEPL had put up a stall and distributed leaflets to the delegates
besides a press kit containing CDs, product catalogue, and Anuj
Bhagwati’s presentation paper. In all we could get good
customer recognition as a technology driven company with state
of the art product offerings. A good brand building.
